Unable to replicate on v0.199.535
Apr 11 2017
First: thank you greatly for giving this attention.
Does not crash on ffmpeg now, but does crash when attempting to click the red X and close the empty [Introduction] window; whether launched by vanilla startup config, or by manually clicking the tutorial button. See screenshot. User cannot re-launch game from menu, but must exit to desktop, otherwise user is presented with apparent endless loop of NPEs dialogs.
Apr 8 2017
Well, it doesn't immediately crash at this point, until running into T1525 of-course.
Still happening.
Apr 3 2017
Unsure how much it affects FB init w/ macOS...but in older releases, forcing FB on w/ the hotkey caused no crash-related issues that I experienced, and dramatically improved performance.
Apr 1 2017
Still crashes on launch, same error as reported earlier, see T2317
Mar 30 2017
Perhaps this is better phrased as "windows backups need sparse file support", as tar/gzip support was added to the linux side a while back.
Mar 27 2017
I don't know how much this helps or not, but our external script approach is pretty basic, and there's no asteroid boomeranging as suggested in @lancake message above.

Also: with intro enabled, no intro plays, and logs report the error:

While the "Creating MAC OS context for OpenGL 4.1 if possible" entry does appear, the game crashes on launch.
The problem is that the driver DOES support it, STARMADE IS MAKING THE WRONG API CALLS and therefore not detecting relevant support. Please see my extensive commentary this topic in-ticket. Since performance is so abysmal on macOS without framebuffer support, should we assume the wrontfix is an indication of plans to drop macOS support?
Mar 17 2017
Update: this issue continues to occur, even after switching away from the professional to a consumer-grade GPU card.

Mar 12 2017
This is what I see, while logged-in as a normal user, about 2 minutes after running /add_admin against my user.
Mar 11 2017
This still occurs, just try to run any tutorial on macOS, and the same crash happens.
Still seeing this issue. I suspect it's related to our application of the /add_admin and /remove_admin commands.
@lancake asked that I upload our factions.fac file. It is attached.

Upon followup discussions with @lancake this issue was most likely specific to grates.
Feb 19 2017
Update after further testing:
- Player-run shops cannot see new pipes, nor grates.
- NPC shops show grates and the new pipes, but they're tagged "Can't buy"
- Confirming that creative mode cannot see the new pipes nor grates; only pipe option is the straight one, can rotate it only, no T or other options, and a search of creative inventory for "grate" returns nothing.
- Factory can no longer manufacturer "White Light Pipe"
Feb 17 2017
Update: the straight pipe block is visible close-up. All others remain invisible as detailed earlier in this report.

This particular bug now appears to be involved with profound client-side hangs and whole-server lagoffs when a docked entity moves along rails attached to a crooked station.
Oct 24 2016
I've seen this too Valck. We just gave up on seeing this get attention anytime soon, and wrote a ~15 line "supervising" bash script that monitors logfiles for the flood of collsions and tp's colliding asteroids into other areas of the same sector. With this, I've had nearly 100 large asteroids clustered in just one sector, and it no longer risks crashing a server.

Ah, ok. Although I'm able to replicate on a macOS as well, with a totally fresh/new install: only change to settings was disabling the tutorial (as that still causes a crash), and switching to windowed mode. My initial/earlier report was a Linux system (which also uses windowed mode).
Regarding possible move of shopkeep with Chunk32 update. I can replicate this error on a clean/fresh install, single-player only, latest release. Which would lead me to presume that since the world is created anew in this situation, this bug is not related to a block coordinate move.
Does not appear GPU-specific, as I can replicate this error on a Mac as well (Intel GPU), single-player only. Same steps as illustrated above.
Emptied the client log folder, and replicated this error in SP only. Also tried the same with an empty/new world, and I can still replicate the error:
Login to SP world, exit to menu, login again, crash.
Not sure it's my specific GPU, but discussions in Slack had people mentioning it so I figured I'd mention mine. One other player mentioned using a Radeon R9.
Creating new task - after reading more details of this discussion, it might not be the same issue...although it seems very similar.

Ah, Schema's response on August 10th confused me. Thanks for clarifying.
From ongoing player discussions, is it possible to distill this issue down to something simpler: considering that there was a very obvious shift to 6-digit metaobject IDs in release 0.199.217. Are client requests for 4-digit metaobjects simply resulting in an odd search/response behavior from the server?
Not resolved, note 1st line:

Will the server automatically make these corrections in existing config files, or should admins be made aware of manual adjustments at the next update?
Fair enough. I assume that this ultimately means OSX users need to:
- Backup valued game data prior to replacement of the .app
- CTRL-click to start the app, and manually OK when prompted by OSX's annoying Gatekeeper routines.

Asteroid spawning/respawning appears to be the cause behind GenX's most recent rash of crashing as well. Unknown if @bobbybighoof has respawn enabled/disabled, but their logs show a distinct pattern of asteroid AABB checks, immediately followed by a ping/pong death spiral.
