Can I request retesting and clarify the issue. It might be fixed by fxing the docking system in the last 2 weeks
fixed with different bugfix. 99.9% sure it can't happen anymore
It might have been my specific procedure with killing a planet that caused it, but, it happened so many times in a row with my set up that I grew frustrated and gave up in trying to destroy planets. The ship had 200m power and fired off a damage beam-pulse-explosive (100% each) that dealth 17m damage in a single second.

I have found the opposite. AI cant hit the broad side of a barn. At Mean sitting right next to a pirate station.... they couldn't hit anything. Of course they were also shooting at each other. I'll continue to test.

hmm maybe use the outermost output groups as a sort of bounds check and use the center of the group(s) as the aiming point? :) Than have it go into focus firing when unfocused can't hit. Just an idea.
use /soft_despawn to remove an asteroid without completely deleting it (will be back on relog / sector reload)
caused by different issue (not on phab) where dones would get NaN values if they immediately undock after docking without completing the full docking procedure and initializing their matrices

same problem as them shooting backwards. their reaction to being too far away was to get even further away
The major problem is that I have no way to aim with an unfocused salvage beam, but I could cheat and just have one beam focus

Checked release and it's appears fine there, in 0.19607 it seems to aim about 7-8 blocks lower than where should aim for although I don't see this happening every time.
Added relevant information to reproduce in tester information field.
