Starmade | Mining Planets causing lag.
Closed, RejectedPublic

Description

Ice planets are causing excessively more lag than strip mining other planets even of the same size,

Pings almost guaranteed to jump up from 150-200 to 500-600, timed perfectly when I begin to blast Ice Planets with salvage beams. Sadly the screenshots didnt save ping, but This:

was the situation it occurred it

If you need a quick ship to test, This:

is the vessel that was used.

This -may- require more than 15 people online on a server to achieve, but, my experience shows Ice planets are an issue compared to their counterparts

i remember Ice planets to always needing more ressources .. i guess the transparencies are the reason for that ?

Updating
Using Demons ship it doesn't matter what planet, (ice, green, so far) my FPS goes from 65-70 to 6. I'll try a smaller one next.

Over on Shattered Skies we are using 50r planets. Try a Universe of those as a comparison

Ya'll have such big sectors, but tiny planets...

Currently Testing on the Scattered Skys server..

Here are the results from the SS server.
Green Planets fps dropped to 9-11
Purple to 6-9
Sandy to 6-9
Ice 6-9

Didn't seem like the icy was much different. There were a lot of players (over 20) Pings did go higher than normal when mining.

Napther, or S. Demon, are you able to record some mining to rule out my connection to the server?

I shall try using some of my old software to record and submit. GIF files do not save the HUD on them.

But the main thing is both the Ping and FPS are adversely effective from what I found. Ill get the recordings done asap.

...15 minutes of footage later, I find out that I need to be in Windowed mode to record properly than get a single image from a video...
Preliminarily, Desert planets appeared to cause the least drops in FPS and Ping... Hopefully pre-mining those planets hasnt skewed the results...

And sadly there is server lag from sources not planet mining... Ill have to do this when its died down.

Mining of an ice planet

(Didnt want to be added on into an edited comment)

-Confirmed-

Not because the ice planet is causing lag, but mining planets still causing lag. The one reported on are small planets. When FPS goes from 60 to 8. when mining a small planet...Seems like an issue. Although granted, the ship doing the testing was a planet eater.

lancake changed the task status from In Queue (Game) to Open.

To be honest, no matter what you do, your FPS is not going to stay 60 when you're using that many groups. That's a performance drop, not lag.
Putting back to open status, the ping/lag issue needs to be investigated, not the performance drop.

I wasn't able to discern any noticeably large difference in ping rates with a green planet vs an ice planet, as well as an asteroid.

All tests carried out on shattered skies server @ sm.starside.space:4242
The ship used had 99 salvage groups with 50 salvage modules each.

Will attempt to contact author and see if he still encounters this problem.

I have not come across this behavior over 1 week of attempts.

Can be countered by setting miner limits on the server.
Also could not reproduce lately.
