Starmade | cross-sector static entities causes problems
Confirmed task for development, NormalPublic

Description

A few things that don't work:

  • warp gates when placed in another sector
  • physics break for entities that cross sectors
  • ship visual position docked in one sector to station in other sector https://youtu.be/nR6AI_VnkyI

there's probably many more issues with this but in general we try to avoid having this since it is accompanied with a lot of misery.

MP - Shattered Skies

A buddy just spawned a station really close to a sector corner (sector border are in West, North & Nadir). Naively he made a docking bay accross the West border of sector and naively I docked my ship on it.

Result : My ship which is supposed docked on that extremity of that branch appear 6 km of the station on the other sector side. Moreoever it's turn to be a ghost ship, I mean it still visible and entity's HUD rendered in navigation but it's impossible to align and to interact with it (impossible to collide with, we litteraly pass through the polygon, impossible to switch button, open door, to shoot it, etc.) I had destroyed the rail dock but nothing happen the ghost ship still docked
Moreover even if I removed that docking branch, I didn't collect back any block from that branch. We removed them but they just disappear, I can't assume if they still there as ghost block entity or not.

Yes, correct, that the exact known behaviour, that docking to a station that is "physical" (marker) in 2 2 2, and reaches out to for example 3 2 2 it will try to dock you to the matching position in 2 2 2.
There is currently no way around that except asking an admin to center the station in the current sector, by selecting it and typing: /teleport_selected_to 0 0 0
The physics break in this process, and you need to make the sector unload and load again before everything is updated.
