Description

User reports that RSS feed is unable to be subscribed to via a feed reader.

TartarusMkII:

Hey guys, I know you two do not have tons of time to devote, but just in case you did not already know, I wanted to do my part and make sure that you knew that for one, the RSS feed on S-M.org's news is not working for my aggregator. It shows up, but when I try to subscribe to it, it can't seem to hook. I've not had this issue with any other feed.

I subscribed to the feed http://star-made.org/news.rss with 2 clients:

  • mozilla firefox' dynamic bookmarks
  • thunderbird's blogs&news-feeds

If any of them do not identify the next newspost on star-made.org, I will see this issue as requiring further research.

I am using the Feeder.co aggregator for Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/rss-feed-reader/pnjaodmkngahhkoihejjehlcdlnohgmp

The reader lets me subscribe, but then it does not appear in my list of feeds. If I try to subscribe again, it doesn't stop me saying I've already done so.

I understand that I am not using the feeders you tested with, and I can't say that many others use the feeder I choose to use, but I wonder if it's still a sign that some users would have this issue, and assume that the RSS feed is simply broken (as I did).

The other rss feeds work fine, correct? If so, it is likely, that other feeders will have the same problem.

Both feeders I used were able to pick up the latest newspost from the feed.
Moving to Feedback, to find out, if the new post is also acknowledged by the author's feedet.

Nah man, you misunderstand- I can't subscribe to the feed to begin with, so automatically no, I wasn't notified XD, I'm sorry man.

Well, since I had no problem to subscribe with both of my 2 feeders, I guess that means this problem is a problem of your feeder.
What feed URL did you try to subscribe to? http://star-made.org/news.rss ?

https://gyazo.com/657e55360ef9b4aaa81b3e54bd17e093

So that's what appears for my feeder- not the .rss.

I manually added .rss, and suddenly it works properly.

So I think something about how this feeder is hooking in, it's being defined simply with an incorrect path (the root, and not .rss). But I have no idea why it'd happen with this feeder. Like I said, this never has happened to me with any of my other feeds.

I think the difference is, that the news page is not an RSS feed, while the other feeds you were adding actually were RSS feeds.(maybe with some layout applied, but nontheless RSS format)
Anyhow, issue resolved.

You are still wanting to think that the problem is mine alone, but what my last post had shown is that for some feeders, it is not getting the URL of the feed itself properly, and no other feed I use does this.

Definitely not resolved, mate.

on star-made.org, scroll almost to the bottom of the site.
You will see this:

Then click on RSS Feed, and you have the feed. (The All News is a different link)
