Starmade | Anti-aliasing does not work
Closed, FinishedPublic

Description

Changing the Anti-Aliasing setting in the connection setup window (second launcher window) produces absolutely no difference. I did a test (image below) with no AA and 8xAA, all other settings were the same, and fps figures were identical for both tests (fluctuating between 60 and 70):

I can't tell the difference between the two after staring at it for a few minutes, and the fact that my fps is the exact same is a pretty good indicator that something is wrong (Anti-Aliasing is notorious for being heavy on GPUs).
Note: I tried to get a similar angle on both images but it might be a bit off.

Other settings:
2560x1440 resolution
256p textures
No shadows
64 block light quality
Everything else is default (apart from AA, ofc)

How to reproduce:
Go in the connection setup window, press "advanced settings" (second tab from the left at the very top of the window), change the AA setting. Then just compare two images (with different AA settings).

I see no difference, keptick used a 980ti, I'm using 970. It's possible that for nvidia drivers AA isn't work (I checked control panel, AA is application controlled) and it works for AMD users.

This needs some more AMD/Nvidia/Intel HD comparisons.

I don't see a bit of difference with either one.. All the pictures look the same.. I see no difference in my testing either..
-Edit-
My Vid. Adap. is and AMD radeon hd 6700.

GTX 760, Latest drivers and dev build, AAA Controlled by app

TLDR: No Change

Seems truly to be an issue with Nvidia (at last, you guys must have felt left out :-P )
can also confirm, works on my Radeon 270X:

-Confirmed-

I think we have enough results, works fine for AMD but not for Nvidia.

I've also tried to check intel HD graphics but I crash when I enabled AA ^^ Most likely because my drivers are outdated but it does work fine without AA, logs:

and
Going to include new logs after I updated my drivers.

I use an Nvidia GTX 680, for me anti-aliasing works when bloom is activated.

-Feedback-

Well Anti-Aliasing works again for my GTX 970... Bloom enabled or disabled makes no difference.
Might have been faulty nvidia drivers since I'm using a more up to date one? Can anyone with previously not working AA try again?

Can confirm that it's working now on my GTX 980ti. However, bloom is required for it to work (for some weird reason). Disabling bloom also disables AA.

It also messes up mip-mapping, but I guess that's a separate issue.

Still bloom-dependent for me.

alright same for me too. Want to make sure it still works fine for AMD without bloom though.

AA works without bloom now.

Alright, closing this task then. AA does seem to trigger other issues but don't think it's related to whatever happened here.
