Be given two independent checker patterns of salvage modules, that are connected by one two dimensional plain of salvage modules in between, such that at least one block of each group is adjecent to that plain. Wire them all to the salvage computer with SHIFT+V on an arbitrary block. Then delete the plain inbetween. Now empty blocks will randomly stay wired to the salvage computer.

I'm so sorry but I've tried to make sense of what you described and I'm not 100% sure... Sounds like those 2 independent checkerboard groups interlock and touch each other. If a plane touches them then when linked, they'll all be in 1 single group. I don't think that's what you mean but that's how I see it.
Could you upload some screenshots showing the steps you've undertaken? Or perhaps a blueprint of what you started with and what it looks like at the end?
It sounds like one of our ghost link tasks so most likely the same issue.

Couldn't reproduce but I assume it's a ghost link issue which were tackled a few months ago. If this still occurs, make a new report about it and perhaps include some screenshots to make it more clear.
Closing task, no feedback and unable to reproduce.
