Starmade | AI switch side or friendly fire focus
Closed, RejectedPublic

Description

I was testing 2 drones fleets. One as Pirate and the other as Trade Guild. Pirate got defeated but I was surprise to see fight still occures.
In fact some heat headed Trading Drone focused one of their own team and fight him. They were all against that one for an obscure reason.
Friendly fire was ON though, so the focused drone took damage.

Fact also this drone got some close range weapons (pulse damage type), so I suppose while attacking the last pirate target the pack was condensed and hit each other with the pulse damage weapon set. So the guy may have shutted down the shield from one of his ally and then get focused by them (I had noticed neutral AI auto-activate as aggressive mode when their shield are down by another neutral target).

Friendly fire was on though, so the focused drone took damage.

MISSILE_DEFENSE_FRIENDLY_FIRE = true

That thing happened few minutes before I left and close server. There are numerous logs (but just last one should help, and seems that something spammed logs too so I don't know if it'll be usefull)

That config option only touches point defense turrets. If it is enabled, your factioned PD turrets will target missiles of your own faction too. If it is disabled, your factioned PD target neutral/enemy missiles only.
That's it.

Heat seekers (missile + missile) targets *everything*, including friendly ships. No way to turn that off.
I'm however not entirely sure if you're talking about this.

To me it looks like it just fired its heat seekers (because an enemy was nearby) and managed to kill his own mate first.

Have to confirm this but it's either missile-pulse or missile-beam but not heat-seeker (it would be slower then).
But we can also see they shoot their pulse damage too and that is impossible without define a target as hostile.

During an another drones test it happened again.

While scrolling the navigation menu I was surprised to see an unfactionned & non-overheating entity. Since it won't overheating it shouldn't be set as neutral, so I went ahead to take a closer look and saw that :

This guy (named: TEAM1rl34) was set as -1 so "Pirate" faction guy but for mysterious reason it switched to 0 as neutral AI at a certain moment of the fight (can't tell when) and so got focused by its comrade. But him was shooting on a ghost entity (mostly a trading guild turret) (see T1709).

Here the lot of logs of that drone fight :

The last one could be related to the docking system. If a parent entity overheats, it removes the faction and that of all its docks unless those have their own faction module. Then it either got undocked by losing the rail block, or lost its parent when it despawned. The result is a turret/previously docked ship, turning neutral with AI still enabled.

Assuming that it was already undocked, its faction module could have been hit if it had any, losing its faction yet the AI still targeting anything that is not its own faction.
Pirates attack anything that is not their own faction, including neutral.

Possibly that's also what happened in the description.

Checked the logs to narrow it down a bit but they're 99% spam of pulling effects being applied...
