Starmade | Fleet ships slow each other down with collision checks while following the flagship

Description

Instead of attempting to maintain formation, fleet ships will all try and converge on their flagship if it is ahead of them. As a result, their collision avoidance code will constantly trigger, so they will periodically slow down and attempt to fly away from one another... This results in them taking much longer to navigate to the flagship than a single ship would.

Steps to reproduce

1.Set a fast ship as the flagship that you will pilot directly
2.Set the fleet to Idle in Formation,

  1. fly behind the other ships of the fleet. They will attempt to follow but come to a dead stop frequently while trying to realign with the flagship at an extremely slow pace.
Tester information (Internal use only)

This seems to be excaberated when crossing sector borders. The easiest way to reproduce seems to be using a fast flagship and piloting it directly. Set the fleet to Idle in Formation, then flying behind the other ships of the fleet. They will attempt to follow but come to a dead stop frequently while trying to realign with the flagship at an extremely slow pace.

I was able to reproduce but its not something consistent from what I can see. Were you flying the flagship yourself?

Put together a fleet of 3 and accelerated at 78 m/s, turned around and see the two other ships flying into each other:
