I don't seem to belong to "Everyone knows", those shortcuts do nothing for me outside Starmade and I've never heard of that before either. Is this something specific to your keyboard layout? You didn't mention your OS but it can't be a Mac with that graphics card. Windows doesn't seem to offer something like this unless you use like alt codes which still work for me. No idea about Linux but I can't find anything about it when I search for it.
Can you elaborate on this a bit?
