Starmade | Unable to split multi stacked items
Closed, FinishedPublic

Description

I went to split a stack in my inventory in single player of black hull and the game said: "Object is unknown on server... re-requesting..." and this happens with all of the multi stack items.

Steps to reproduce:
Install starmade v0.194
Enter game
Acquire any two or more items that combine into a MultiSlot group
Attempt to split the stack by right-clicking
An error will appear, "Object is unknown on server... re-requesting..." instead of the split dialog.

Bug confirmed still a problem

Rightclicking multi stacks does not bring up any menu to split them up...

However the error "Object is unknown on server... re-requesting..." is no longer happening

Most of the stated issues have been fixed apart from one final bug:

Holding shift and then taking a multistack from a chest won't stack with the multistack you already have in your own inventory

I.E Grey standard hull one stack is in your inventory the other is in your base supply box

Shift left clicking on the one inside the supply box will pull the stack sure but it won't combine with the other instead it will use another slot

If you don't have a free slot it will tell you that you don't have room however manually pulling the stack over via dragging it will make it work as intended.

Fix this one and I think multistack issues will be resolved (mostly)

Lowering priority as this isn't a major issue.

Still an issue in the latest release (v0.19401 build 20150820_221933) :(

Still an issue in the latest release (v0.19401 build 20150820_221933) :(

correct, fixed in dev-builds except some minor leftover, that makes them not merge when "shift-click" moving them from one to another inventory

Okay, so what if you have an inventory with several, separate slots of a non-multi-stacked item, and you shift-click a multi-stacked item (of the same type) from another inventory into the more filled one. How would you expect this to stack? Would it combine with a non-multi-stacked item of the same type? And if there are multiples of that type, does it just stack with the first it finds and leaves the rest?

For example there are 5 stacks of separate Grey Advanced Armor in your inventory (they are not multi-stacked), you then shift-click a Grey Advanced Armor multi-slot from a Storage block into the main inventory. What should happen?

Personally, I think that it should try to find an empty slot first, and let the player add the others to the multi-slot themselves. If no empty slot is found, but a non-multi-stacked item of the same type is found, merge the multi-stack into the regular stack.

I hope that wasn't too confusing :S I'd like to discuss it before implementing because the inventory merging code is a bit tedious and I don't want to have to re-do it :)

Also, if I'm misunderstanding the remaining issue, please let me know.

Okay so scratch that, I've re-read your comment Zackey and I believe this issue should be fixed now. Feel free to comment on the above situation, in case anyone thinks that functionality should be changed.
