Starmade | Damage beams with support and multiple groups consume extreme amounts of power
Closed, RejectedPublic

Description

Before this update, my ship with beam-beam-ion and missile-beam-explosive weapons worked just fine. I have arrays on my ship for each that have many groups. The missile-beam-explosive array has 16 groups, with each averaging about 200,000 in damage. However, before this update, each consumed very little power, but now they each consume around 3 million power each when the whole array is fired! I know there was a supposed bugfix for multi-group weapon arrays not consuming extra power properly, but this is way overboard! However, what also strikes me as odd is the fact that I have a 2-group cannon-cannon-explosive weapon array on my ship, and it has way more blocks in it than the 2-group beam array does, yet it consumes astronomically less power. So I think this might be a bug related to power consumption with both multiple groups and having a beam slave.

For numbers and stats:

My ship has 25,600,822.6 power tankage
and 1,606,374.7 power regen

The multi-group beam-beam-ion weapon array on my ship:
6000 blocks total;
2400 beam primary blocks split evenly into two groups (1200 blocks each)
1200 beam slave blocks for 50% beam secondary (100% caused extreme power drain already before the update)
2400 ion effect blocks for 100% ion effect
Each group on the beam array, when checked in detail on the weapons tab, claims to consume 0.0 power.
When this weapon setup was fired before the latest update, it consumed about 20% of my ship's power, so about 5 million drain for the whole tick in which it fires off the entire beam.
But when it's fired now in the new update, it instantly drops my ships power to 0% and only fires one of the beams for like 1 or 2 noticeable frames (as in FPS frames) on screen and then stops. After this occurs my ship is left with strangely about 25% power left. Surely this grouping penalty is not meant to be THIS severe for just having it split into two groups rather than 1. And remember, for comparison to this weapon array, my ship has a second more powerful single-group beam-beam-ion array of 6600 total blocks, yet it only consumes about 20% of my ship's power when fired! So this definitely has to be an issue with some sort of new mistyped calculation/equation for beam slave and multi-group weapons.

The multi-group missile-beam-explosive array on my ship:
5152 blocks total;
2208 missile primary blocks (split roughly into 16 groups, so about 138 blocks per array)
736 beam secondary blocks for 33.3% beam secondary (100% never caused extreme power drain but the long reload time was unacceptable for me)
2208 explosive effect blocks for 100% explosive effect
Before this update, this weapon array consumed only about 10% of my ships power when fired, so about 2.5 million power total. But now, when I check the weapons tab for each group (138 blocks per average for each group, remember that), it says that each costs about 2.5 million power to fire! What's 2.5 million multiplied by 16? 40 million! More than 10 times more power than this weapon array consumed before for me, and is that really what was intended? No, I cannot believe that. This absurd power drain HAS to be a bug! Like the beam-beam-ion weapon setup I have, this one also instantly kills my ships power to 0% when fired, and only fires a handful of its missiles.

Here is a link to the ship I am using that this bug occurs on: Gyoza-class destroyer

Confirm, and this don't just affect Beam-beam-ion
basically the whole beam power calculation is messed up.
From the data me and my player got, the power consumption have added two zero at the end of the value.

Was the result of a fix for T367 (duplicate), that task is not completely fixed but this issue (and a few others) have been resolved.

Didn't really mention the problem so here it is:

Any damage beam with a support and multiple groups experienced greatly increased power consumption.

This bug appears to be fixed now for some combinations like multigroups of beam-beam, but combos like missile-beam with multiple groups still consume extreme amounts of power and thus cannot be used properly.

Are you guys aware that this bug was not fixed for missiles?
