The old thruster plumes usually worked on docked entities. It either always went 100% throttle or never appeared if I recall correctly.
Not sure if what we currently is a bug but it's certainly worth changing.
In this case It would be best to have all docked entities act the same as their mothership's thrusters. Unfortunately you'll get unwanted results like docked fighters thrusting when the mothership moves.
Sadly this is 6 of 1 half dozen the other... Any way to differentiate docked engine nacelles and drones and fighters?
Maybe linking the rail Basic/Rotator block to a light will make Plume appear on what is docked to that rail and nothing else
How about a block CV to the docking rail point with a gui menu pops up and let you select if the rail is set to "ship part" or "drone/fighter"?
Or some logic setup? eg. C rail V AND as "ship part" and C rail V NOT as "drone/fighter"?
A potential solution IMO is to introduce a new AI setting for passive ship parts. That would solve some other problems too.
Probably a stupid question but I assume you inherited the thrusters in the first place?
Personally I have a bigger problem with multiplayer where a redocked ships thrusters are maxed out since the new much more obvious and visible thruster effect. Seems to be the client doesn't receive a message from the server about it as it's always fixed just by reconnecting.
