Starmade | Sector Boundary Station/Blueprint Spawn Protection
Confirmed task for development, NormalPublic

Description

The OP of this thread wants preventative measures in place to stop stations and or blueprints from being spawned at or near sector boundaries as crossing sector boundaries tends to cause problems.

Either a warning/error message that pops up telling the player that if they spawn the blueprint/station at their current position then it will cross the sector boundaries or an automatic correction that slides the blueprint/station into a more comfortable point in the sector.

Theres also the potential for some game play enhancements viz allowing players more precise placement similar to the copy paste in build mode.

Feature Request

  • spawning of blueprints on a sector border
  • building over a sector border

should create a warning.

There should also be a way to indicate the center of the current sector.

There are at least two ways that I know of, f11 puts you in a free camera mode in the center of the sector and you can use the distance to neighboring sectors to get a general idea where center is. They are not as good as a sector center indicator though.

Isn't there a hardcoded limit of 1 station per sector, or is that just a default config limit?
If hardcoded, it is also possible have any created station not appear where the user was pointing, but in the exact center of the sector instead. That way we won't even need an indicator for the center.

Don't really see the use in this except for stations. Blueprints are after all temporary.
I will say yes to the station in center.

(btw sorry I didn't notice this suggestion being here)
