Steps to reproduce
Make a fleet with salvage beam.
Order the fleet to mine a Asteroid sector.
Look the result
Edit : Unload the sector and reload it fix the problem.

Try to use small ships instead and make sure their salvage computer is linked to a chest.

- Small ships used (L13, W9 H7) with salvage comp linked to storage
- After issuing order, drone fleet took position around asteroid then aligned orientation with the mothership, and did nothing but mimic its movements. Did not mine asteroid.
