Starmade | AI Unable to hit Moving/Strafing objects
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

Not sure if this is intended, but, surely an AI would be able to target something that is moving barely 75m/s sideways from it.
(Server 12000 sector size, 150ms default speed, AI=500)

This means that the only way to deal with these ships is with Beam-slaved lock on rockets, as even beams suffer from a drift in their aiming. The sheer fact that the AI aren't able to process the position for a Hit-Scan weapon means there is something wrong in their aiming algorithms

Steps to reproduce
  1. Spawn in 2 drone/fighter class ships. Sub 1k mass allows them to have maximal strafe. Set one as Trade Guild and Other as Pirate
  1. Notice the AI turn to fight each other, and in those initial moments damage is done, but as the AI increase their horizontal speed to eachother they will begin to shoot on the trailing side of the ship.
  1. As speeds increase, the AI will miss by a country mile, even on higher difficulties
  1. Trading guild ship can be replaced by a piloted ship of medium size, so long as it is able to strafe sideways to the point that the AI will miss the broadside of a barn
