Starmade | Open Beta Launcher not launching
Closed, RejectedPublic

Description

Downloaded and ran the beta launcher through Steam, but nothing showed up on screen.

When I run the game using the beta launcher Steam reads that Starmade is currently running, as does Task Manager, but there isn't any launcher on screen. I also cannot shut the launcher down through Task Manager for some reason, and must reboot my computer to force the it to shut down.

I had a similar problem today, similar symptoms: launcher works correctly, but upon hitting the "Launch" button, nothing is actually launched; the process remains in the Task Manager, but there's no window, and must be terminated manually.

The culprit was that a Java update changed the folder; from 1.8.0_71 to 1.8.0_73, therefore there was no binaries folder where the launcher was told to look. Fixed by selecting the updated folder.

The launcher should probably check that the previously set binaries folder still exists before attempting to launch, and throw an informative, user-visible error message if it's not. The current warning message is only present in the Options menu, and doesn't prevent the launcher from poofing while trying to use it.

How to reproduce: set the java bin folder path in Options to something nonexistant, close options, hit Launch. The path field allows just anything to be typed on it, even without a drive prefix.

As a first-time reporter, apologies for any mistakes made.
