Launcher | Beta launcher and steam issues.
Closed, FinishedPublic

Description

I have a few issues with the beta launcher, first of which is that steam does not even show the options for using it what so ever, steam says it doesn't even exist. there is not even any option which allows me to choose from other than opt out of betas.

the second is when I manually download it from the main website, it appears as thought it installs separately from steams install even if I do in fact install it into the same directory or place as steam. it will run as its completely own install all files from steam do not migrate to it, or vice versa. so what is going on or why that happens is above my understanding of programming.

and I'm using windows 10, and the version I tried to use was the one available in the main sites links so I cant say how that affects things.

If you point it to your steam install it will use it, however, yes it has a totally different set of settings and is not related to the previous launcher.
Steam should have a right-click menu and allow "Open with beta launcher". This should use it.

Can you try to run the launcher in a console, to capture the debug output, and post it here?

OK then firs it's first of all I'm not blind there is no drop down you keep mentioning.
Steam should have a right-click menu and allow "Open with beta launcher". This should use it. well guess what there isn't one.

I'm not blind or stupid, it DOES NOT EXIST AS I TOLD YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE. repeating the same response isn't going to fix that or make it go away. steam is not recognizing that there even is another launcher, that's not something I can fix or redirect you to on my end talk to steam here not me. and since this is something to do with the steam client not starmade no nothing I do there will help you.

the second thing thing isn't an issue that stops me from playing but where are the files I need to edit to change for the new launchers settings like the config settings or default starting gear?

new issue progress. i have found out what is going on. and its neither an issue with the launcher or steam. it windows 10. apparently what happened is the launcher is installing to the APP DATA directory in windows 10. not that much of a problem once you can access this hidden part of windows.but here is the thing, steam cannot access or find this area either which is why my client will not acknowledge its existence. its not here cause windows 10 hid the directory.

I do not think there is a fix for this. but it has provided me with a practice testing environment for the launcher itself with a sterile install so its easier to manage it and not affect the steam version. also I found all this out by interacting with steams customer service which claims its not a real issue because this is something that they claim is your support issues with windows and not their client and I should basically and rather rudely was told stop reporting false issues. maybe you guys need to leash their legal customer service department.

AndyP changed the task status from Feedback to In Queue (Launcher).

Pushing forward -> Issue has been fixed by the launcher, as it now stores all files in its own directory, and not in a system specific storage.
