Description

Attached I have 2 sets of example pictures that are from the same ship. The build areas are mirrors of each other yet the lighting is different. I have been experiencing this since the new lighting engine.

Here camera is facing back of ship

Here camera is facing front of ship

Here camera is facing starboard

Here camera is facing port

Are you sure this only started happening after the new lighting? Go to your settings.cfg and change:
CUBE_LIGHT_NORMALIZER_NEW_M = true
to
CUBE_LIGHT_NORMALIZER_NEW_M = false
Make sure to save the file and start starmade up.

Do the same test again.
I think what you experience is the Star shining through your exterior. We used to have that as task but got closed because it's not exactly easy to fix + the result could be a lot worse (everything is dark).

I confirm, got the same and that start exactly when you attempt solving light problems on hepta and tetra. I mean solve part of light problem in a hand but bring that one in other hand.

It usually affect mainly wedges and hepta. So bad I delete screen of one of my ships were it was clearly visible before/after.

I'll do a screen next time I'll play.

EDIT : I found it back for after update version (task it might be duplicate somewhere)

The wedge was fluo-pink lighting before update but now it render like that.

Here a dark tetra which were, while sun enlighted, yellow like its reversed nearbouring yellow corner before the light update.

Found back also the previous task where it was reported : T1539: Block lighting normalization issues

(my internet is finally back up, and I can post this)

I don't remember ever having unsymmetrical shadows before the new lighting engine. But since it's been like a month or something I wouldn't say that I'm 100% positive.

I changed this setting...
CUBE_LIGHT_NORMALIZER_NEW_M = false

port side back wall is still darker...

starboard side back wall is still lighter...

Here I rotated the ship 180 degrees so the sun would be on the opposite side...

port side back wall is still darker...

starboard side back wall is still lighter...

Perhaps this is a better example of what is happening, this is a simple blue tunnel with 4 spaces in between every 1/4 slab light. The camera is facing forward.

The shadows are only on one side. If I spin the tunnel around the shadows do not change. Why are they only on one side??? I can add or remove lighting to it, and it will be less noticable, but it will still be slightly off.

Woah, I updated and opened my starmade this morning and everything was dark, like the lighting engine was turned off. So I set "CUBE_LIGHT_NORMALIZER_NEW_M = true" and everything is back to normal. But I know that I launched starmade multiple times last night with that set to false and it wasn't dark. What does that setting do?

-rejected-

It disables/enables the new lighting used. It's possible the disabled version (the old one) doesn't work like it used to anymore.

Got what I wanted though. It's another issue that belongs in T1539. Basically what croquelune posted.
