Starmade | Reverse Built Turret Bug
Closed, RejectedPublic

Description

I apologize in advance is this Bug has been reported elsewhere. I searched but could not find it.

The issue is as follows. A normal turret is constructed like a classic battleship battery. The casing pivots left or right, and the attached barrel pivots up or down. However when you attempt to build a turret in reverse order, where the casing pivots up and down, and the barrel moves left or right it bugs.

What I noticed was when pivoting the turret collision detection for the ship isn't detecting the barrel touching the ship. If you rotate far enough the turret will lock with two blocks interposed on top of each other. When this occurs pressing C will reset the turret however when pivoted too far no collision occurs again and the process repeats its self.

Please add a blueprint of a sample turret that would cause this for me to test.

I don't think that's unique to the turret setup you tried. Probably just more noticable. Pretty much all my turrets have that problem if the barrel touches the ship hull.
Like, ship hull to turret base collision detection is ok, turret base to turret barrel coll. det. ok, turret barrel to ship hull not ok.

For the time being, I work around this by adding blocks that limit turret / barrel movement in such ways that the barrel can never touch the hull.

Could be a problem in multiplayer; It can cause slight lag, and becomes worse with multiple turrets doing the same. If someone builds their ship without the workaround mentioned above, it'd mess with everyone's gameplay.
