Starmade | Some turret designs will not turn or fire normally when used by AI
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

For some reason, this turret design I made to go with my escort ship won't work well when AI is activated. It works OK sometimes, but most of the time it will jam itself and not move/fire at any enemies even when the AI is activated in the structure tab. It'll sometimes jitter and sputter on its base, like it's trying to move but it's stuck. However, when you go into the turret itself in pilot mode, on the barrel, you are able to move the turret normally, with ease, no problems whatsoever.

I have a feeling this is probably due to AI trying to move the turret in ways its not designed to move (eg. ignoring the fact that it can't point its barrel downwards, so it jams itself trying to force its way through its base to point at its target).

Way to reproduce this bug:

  1. Spawn in my ship that it's happening on with the big three-barreled turrets here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kplp3tglkm983do/bugged%20ship%20with%20turrets.zip?dl=0
  2. Start the AI on the ship
  3. Go into godmode
  4. Spawn in some enemy ships (since the game now by default makes all ships enemy usable (please fix that too by the way), you may spawn in some titans or something or something big in your catalog that could accidentally kill the ship before you can witness the bug.
  5. The turrets are set to target "any", so one or two pirate ships ought to do it.
  6. Watch as the turrets sputter/jam on their base trying to move, and sometimes won't even shoot when their target is within their sights (right in front of them).
